3 TIPS FROM YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

March 29, 2019

1. First Looks

Let talk about a few reason why I’m in favor of first looks.  Not only does it allow for you to have a few minutes alone as a couple to soak in the fact that your day is actually here, it also gives you a few moments to breathe.  There will still be those reactions from the groom that the bride so hopes for when she walks down the isle.  But for the groom, it’s a more private intimate moment which may even allow for more emotion to come through.  I mean, who likes crying in front of hundreds of your closest family and friends?

Also, with doing a first look, it allows us to get almost all of those “formal” portraits out of the way.  After the ceremony, I’ll snag you for a few more portraits of the two of you as husband and wife but then you can go and actually enjoy your cocktail hour! What a concept, right?! Don’t get me wrong, waiting until the ceremony for him to see you is a great option too, but like I said I’m a fan of first looks. I did a first look myself, and it really helped to settle those nervous butterflies I was having.  I felt an odd sense of peace knowing I was walking down the isle to my person.

2. Clouds and Open Shade Are Your Friends

While you as a bride or groom may be totally bummed that you’re getting married on a dreary overcast day, its like striking gold for a photographer.  Overcast days create beautiful this even magical light which allows more options for photo locations.  Say you don’t have an overcast day but are dreaming of your ceremony outside; open shade is your friend.  Again, it allows for that beautiful light and in turn will keep your guests a little cooler on a hot summer’s day.

3. Trust is Key

I would say the first thing many of my clients tell me is “I am terrible at being photographed” or “I’m extremely awkward”.  To be honest, I kind of chuckle at these comments. If you trust in me and what I do, you will realize you’re not terrible at being photographed OR extremely awkward.  My goal is to capture the essence of you as a couple.  Of course I’ll give you some tips along the way, but trust me, your day will be captured beautifully showcasing the love and connection between the two of you.  And if you’re still super nervous. Engagement sessions are a great way to break the ice and get those nervous jitters out of the way.
